Skills for Jobs and Growth (2010)
Skills for Jobs and Growth (2010) [PDF 1MB] presents an update of the 2005 background paper Skills for jobs and growth. While part of the focus is on what has changed over the past five years some new material has been included in a number of areas to reflect recent developments in the labour market or where information is no longer available.
It is also the case that the policy agenda has progressed since the original document was released and this has influenced the content of the current work.
The first chapter presents a brief examination of recent developments in the Queensland labour market and then looks at some sources of longer run change in the labour force. The second chapter looks at changes in the skill profile of the Queensland population and at the value of qualifications to individuals. The third chapter then considers issues in the supply of skilled labour including, education and training pathways, population ageing, migration and the measurement of skill shortages. Finally chapter 4 summarises the patterns of growth in the different areas of Queensland VET over a longer period.
