Value of career development

A scoping study undertaken on the Economic Benefits of Career Development on the International Centre for Career Development and Public Policy website [PDF 419KB] highlights that benefits to individuals include matching the interests and talents of individuals with their training and career choices, increased motivation to complete courses, and securing work.

The study also highlights there are a number of broader benefits to be achieved from career development, including reducing unemployment, higher labour force participation, and higher productivity.

The National Centre for Vocational Education Research report on Career Development and VET: At a Glance avalable on the NCVER website  indicates career development information can help young people make the transition from school to work, but it also plays a role in assisting older people adapt to a changing workforce and engage in lifelong learning.
