Registering young people

If you are an eligible learning provider under the new Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 then you have obligations to fulfill. An eligible learning provider includes registered training organisations delivering vocational education and training to a 15 to 17 year old and Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation contracted providers delivering an employment program nominated as an Employment Skills Development Program such as Get Set for Work.

New laws require learning providers to register young people in Queensland with the Queensland Studies Authority (QSA) in the year before they turn 16 years of age or complete Year 10. Generally this will mean that schools will register a young person with the QSA. However, if the young person comes from interstate or overseas and the main learning provider is not a school, then that provider will need to register the young person.
