Overview

The Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) requires the integration of occupational licensing requirements, where applicable, into the delivery of training packages and accredited courses.

Accordingly, it is important for training stakeholders including registered training organisations and course developers to beware of occupational licensing and any additional requirements that they may need to meet.

It is equally important that licensing and regulatory authorities engage with the training stakeholders and have a strong understanding of the vocational education and training (VET) system to ensure effective training package and course development.

To facilitate this, the Department of Education and Training provides a range of information and advisory services to help stakeholders understand the interconnection between occupational licensing and the VET system.

The main source of information the department provides on occupational licensing and regulatory matters impacting on training and assessment can be found on the Licensing Line News website.

The department also has a Licensing Relations unit which is available to assist both training and licensing stakeholders.

The Unit specialises in providing industry regulators with guidance on understanding the VET system and assistance to develop appropriate strategies to integrate training and assessment for occupational licensing and regulatory purposes into the VET system.

The Unit is also available to provide relevant information and assistance to registered training organisations delivering, or wishing to deliver, training and assessment with an occupational licensing or regulatory outcome.

The department also conducts seminars and produces guides and fact sheets to help keep stakeholders up to date with licensing issues impacting on VET.
