Pamagirri Aboriginal Dance Troupe

The Rainforestation Nature Park first introduced an aboriginal cultural experience in 1987, giving tourists the chance to learn how to throw a boomerang whilst waiting for an Army Duck Tour of the rainforest.

In 1993, an expansion was made on this growing interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, with the formation of the Pamagirri Aboriginal Dance Troupe. Pamagirri means 'silent snake', and is symbolic of the Rainbow Serpent, responsible for the creation for the mountains and rivers in Aboriginal Dreamtime stories. The acclaimed Pamagirri dancers perform three times daily, and have taken their popular show overseas to Singapore, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong.

Most of the troupe are expert Didgeridoo players. Markula, one of the leaders, has been recognised in the Guinness Book of Records for the furthest spear throw of 120 metres using a woomera. The members of the troupe are mainly from Northern Australia and take great pride in educating visitors about their ancient culture.
